Regarding the water crisis in some parts of Delhi, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said, ‘For some time now, the Delhi government’s irresponsible attitude is being seen regarding the water crisis in Delhi. Women, children, old and young people in Delhi are risking their lives and running behind tankers to get a bucket of water. The promise of 24-hour water supply by the Chief Minister has proved to be a hoax.’
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said, ‘Haryana, Uttar Pradesh are continuously supplying their prescribed quota of water to Delhi. Despite this, the biggest reason for water crisis in Delhi today is that 54% of the water that is coming is not accounted for. 40% of the water is being wasted due to old and dilapidated pipelines. Thousands of crores of rupees were spent by the Delhi government in the last 10 years, but despite this, no solution was found. This water is being stolen and sold to tanker mafia.’
He said, ‘On one hand, in the rich areas of Delhi, an average of 550 liters of water is being supplied per person per day, while in villages and slums, an average of 15 liters of water is being supplied per person per day. Even today, except Wazirabad, all other plants are producing more water than their capacity. I hold the Delhi government’s mismanagement responsible for Delhi’s shortage.’
